Welcome Back - October 2019

1st Oct 2019

We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable summer holidays. We have a busy year ahead in all facets of school life.

In sport, Olympic Handball has restarted again this year as our junior boys' and girls' teams bid for glory under the watchful eyes of their coaches (Ms. Casey and Ms. Carroll). We are delighted to renew our partnership with Swim Ireland as our 3rd class pupils engage in 10 weeks of free swimming tuition . We also welcome back Mark (from St.Brendan's G.A.A. Grangegorman) again this year who along with his Gaelic Football expertise has also introduced hurling for the first time.

We also have big plans in relation to Music in St. Peter's. Our school orchestra will perform in the Mansion House on Tuesday, 5th of November as part of the re-launch of Tusla. Our school chamber choir will participate in the Laudate Choral Festival as part of Catholic School's Week at the end of January 2020. We plan to arrange many events from the start of January 2020 to mark 10 years since the start of our strings' project. We also hope to host a school musical in the hall before the Easter Holidays.

We are focusing on S.P.H.E. (Social, Personal and Health Education) as part of our S.S.E. (School Self-Evaluation) process for 2019-2020. We will gather evidence (through questionnaires, focus groups and interviews) to see how well we are doing and what area for improvement we need to focus on. We are also putting a greater emphasis on I.T. (Information Technology) and have brought Cocoon I.T. (a dedicated I.T. teacher) services on board to help promote it throughout the school. Our school website is still in its developmental stage but hopefully it will be fully functional soon.

Parent/Teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday, 20th and Thursday, 21st of November 2019. More details to follow through school correspondence shortly.

The dates for our Religious Sacraments are as follows:

  • First Confession (First Penance) on Thursday, 13th of February 2020 and First Holy Communion on Sunday, 3rd of May 2020
  • Ceremony of Light (5th and 6th classes) on Thursday, 30th of January 2020 and Confirmation on Friday, 7th of February 2020

Following the unfortunate cancellations of the Sponsored Walks on Friday, 27th of September and Friday, 4th of October, the sun finally appeared from behind the murky clouds and most of our classes have conducted their walks (as I type only the 3rd and 4th classes remain). Our sponsored walks will fund and subsidise our school tours in May 2020.
