Term 2 and 3
Terms 2 and 3 have been filled with fun, learning, creativity, and exciting experiences! The children completed seven weeks of swimming and made fantastic progress in the water. We carried out lots of engaging science experiments, including the Egg Drop Challenge, where children had to protect an egg using different materials, and the exciting Saving Fred activity. Our STEM challenges encouraged teamwork and problem-solving as we worked to create the longest paper chain and build the tallest Leaning Tower of Pisa out of cardboard.
We celebrated World Book Day by designing our own potato characters, and they all looked absolutely amazing. During our study of Italy, we created Michelangelo-inspired artwork while lying underneath tables to paint just as he did when decorating the Sistine Chapel ceiling – it was such a unique and memorable experience! We also made delicious Rice Krispie buns as part of our procedural writing lessons and enjoyed a visit from the ice cream truck as a special treat.
The children made the most of the sunny weather by reading outdoors and creating colourful chalk art. We currently have some extra class members as we are raising butterflies, and everyone is excited to release them next week when they are ready. We enjoyed two fantastic school trips: a visit to Blessington Basin during Wellbeing Week and a trip to TU Dublin, where we learned all about primary nutrition.
There were plenty of opportunities for celebration too, including Pancake Tuesday and a wonderful disco party with Ms Kirrane’s lovely Junior Infants. In PE, the children particularly enjoyed their gymnastics lessons, developing new skills while having great fun.
One of the more emotional moments of the term was saying goodbye to Sharon, our lovely SNA as she moved to another classroom. We were very sad to see her leave our class, but we are lucky that we still get to see her around the school every day. The children made her a special card and gave her lots of big hugs before she left.
It has been a fantastic few months full of learning, laughter, creativity, and unforgettable memories. We are so proud of everything the children have achieved and look forward to many more exciting adventures ahead in the coming weeks! 🌞
