Science Week

12th Nov 2021

We had so much fun doing experiments during Science week!

We interviewed Niamh Keogh who is a scientist. She showed us her microscope and told us all about her work as a scientist. She even showed us an experiment to make a chemical reaction using vinegar and baking soda!

We investigated how soap works. We had a plate of water and pepper (germs). We discovered that when we put washing up liquid on our finger and then put it into the water the pepper/germs were repelled (moved away)!

Next we learned about how important our heart is. We discovered how to take our pulse and then investigated how our pulse increases/decreases depending on how active we are. We also discovered that different animals have different heart rates too.

We had great fun carrying out static electricity experiments with our balloons. It felt like magic!

We completed a STEM challenge by creating our own structures using marshmallows and match sticks!

We saw some raisins dancing in the water. We realised that if we use fizzy water in a cup, the bubbles get trapped in the grooves of the raisin helping it float to the surface. The bubble pops and then it sinks back down. It looks like the raisins are dancing!
