St. Peter’s NS orchestra trip to Wexford in preparation for Festival of Youth Orchestras concert on the 10th of February 2024 in the National Concert Hall

29th Jan 2024

On Sunday, 28th of January, our 23 strong orchestra had an early start as we embarked on a trip to Kilanerin, Wexford to collaborative with three other orchestras (St. Agnes’ CCMA, Carlow Youth Orchestra and Kiltra School of Music) in a 100 strong ensemble. We rehearsed our repertoire for our upcoming Irish Association of Youth Orchestras’ Festival of Youth Orchestras performance in the 10th of February. Our reportoire includes:

The Irish Suite by Leroy Anderson
Finlandia by Jean Sibelius
Three Irish Counties by Ailbhe Kehoe
The Irish Rover Waltz
Finale from Symphony no. 5 by Tchaikovsky

We would like to the amazing Ciara for working so hard with our incredible players over the past number of months to get to this stage. Thanks to Ms. Oliver (strings’ project administrator) and all the staff of St. Peter’s NS who help out on a weekly basis with the project.

Of course, we would like to congratulate our wonderful boys and girls (some as young as 4th class) for engaging in a collaboration that they will never forget as they are playing with other young adults as old as 18.

The majority of them have never been in the National Concert hall before so to grace the stage in two weeks as part of one of the bigggest ever youth orchestras to perform in the concert hall is a remarkable achievement. They are a credit to themselves, their school, their families and the community.
