Aistear 'The Dentist'

27th Jan 2020

The children love learning through play during their daily Aistear sessions. Play-based learning provides challenging and enjoyable learning experiences for children and allows them develop and demonstrate their communication skills, social skills, creativity and problem-solving capacities. The children have been engaging with role play, construction, playdough, sand, small world and bingo stations so far this year. For our Aistear sessions we have four stations set up in the class and the children rotate stations daily.

In January, our Aistear theme for the month was ‘The Dentist Surgery. In the role play area, we acted out the scene of a dental surgery and practised all of the vocabulary associated with the dentist. In the construction area, we built dental surgeries from wooden blocks. We made utensils used by the dentist and food that is healthy for our teeth at the playdough station. We also played bingo to help familiarise ourselves with the new vocabulary. We displayed excellent creativity and super team work skills all month.
